Roasting of low-sulphur concentrates in a fluid bed furnace

The Gipronickel Institute and the Pechenganickel combine have developed a fluid bed roasting technology to treat low sulphur concentrates with production of calcines with variable sulphur contents. This paper discusses the research work leading to the development of this technology, including the effect of concentrate particle size on process performance. The problems relating to the roasting mechanism are also discussed.
