Rocky reach kaplan turbine replacement

The paper presents the continuing experience with a large Kaplan turbine replacement program undertaken for eleven turbine-generator units of the Rocky Reach Hydroelectric Project on the mid-Columbia River near Wenatchee, WA. The manufacturing and installation phases of the contract for Units 1-7 are addressed. The paper elaborates on the considerations which lead to the inclusion of rehabilitiation of Units 8-11 into the existing contract. Model turbine design and development for Units 8-11 are also covered. unit 8-11 prototype turbine design and manufacturing, and planning for the upcoming field activities are discussed.
