While developing a new PM2.5 sampler, we found that during the simulated solar irradiance filter temperature can be 10-20 deg C higher than the temperature of the surrounding air. Such over-heating can cause a substantial negative artifact, i.e. loss of collected mass due to evaporation of semivolatile species. New PM2.5 is designed to address this issue. The adequacy of the proposed design feature is being investigated. Loss of collected matter at various temperature differences between the filter and the ambient air is being studied.
