The Sierra Nevada mountain range in California was the subject of a major USDA-funded research project during the past four years. The Sierra Nevada Ecosystem Project (SNEP) had, as one of its many facets, a component examining air quality over the range, including small urban enclaves such as South lake Tahoe, CA. This paper serves as a short summary of this report~(1, 2), both of which should be addressed for further details. The two IMPROVE-Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments~3 sites within the range (Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks) were supplemented by sites in the Cascade range (Lassen Volcanic and Crater Lake National Parks) and the San Bernardino Mountains (San Gorgonio Wilderness Area/Barton Flats) to allow the development of robust spatial trends.
