With the increase in the capacity of optical transmission lines, not only is a knowledge of dispersion important but its precise control and distribution along the system is required. A number of techniques for chromatic dispersion measurements is available for the characterization of dispersion in short (approx m's) and long (approx km's) fibers based on time-delay schemes, like time-of-flight and phase-shift measurements as well as interferometric techniques.~1 Although reliable and accurate measurements can be undertaken, the application of many of the above techniques is limited by the availability, complexity, and cost of the broadband laser sources required, as well as the intricacy of the experimental setup.
