Virtual reality entertainment technology applied to military parachute simulation flight training

Recently low-cost, high-performance technology has been developed to bring PC and arcade gamers the high level of visual realism found in extremely costly military and civilian professional training systems. ^This technology has been applied to allow the military to safely teach, plan and practice dangerous parachuting missions. ^A parachute flight simulation system is described which has been developed, installed and is now in use where these improved display devices are used to provide needed scene cues and extend training syllabus scope. ^The relationship of the technology capabilities to training requirements is detailed. ^(Author)
