Load Transfer Behavior of Rock-Socketed Piles in Weak Rock

Both model tests and theoretical analysis of rock-socketed pile have been done for the purpose of studying the load transfer behavior and failure mechanism of socketed piles in weak rock carrying axial load in this paper. The tests and numerical analysis show that the bearing capacity loss of a socketed pile is contributed to the development of the plastic zone of the pile-rock surface and to the development of the boundary fissure of the compression zone beneath the pile bottom. For the p-s curves of the socketed pile, the test results are in good agreement with the elasto-plastic analysis by FEM and BEM.
