摘要

The paper deals with system solutions based on constellations of satellites in ICOs to establish reliable and cost-effective Data Relay Satellite systems. The main aim is to demonstrate that alternative approaches to geostationary satellites do exist enabling to link a single ground station with a plurality of LEO satellites performing Observation tasks. The paper illustrates also the key role that can be played by a few selected innovative technologies in the payload section, to increase the effectiveness of both the LEO satellites and the Ground Segment - including the receive Data Stations.
