Abstract: Advances in fiber optic sensors and, in particular, thetechnique of electropolymerization have led to adevelopment which allows for porphyrins, the sensingmolecules, to be attached directly onto the tip of anoptical fiber. The sensing element as a whole is veryrobust, since during the process ofelectropolymerization the molecule forms a matrix onthe surface of the fiber-film, thus ensuring noleeching of the film constituents to the surroundingenvironment. Luminescence lifetime decays were obtainedusing a novel dedicated instrumentation system. Thedata was analyzed using high level languagesincorporating mathematical modeling capabilities. Theresults of this work are reported as well as a detaileddiscussion of the electropolymerization process withrespect to the porphyrins. !19
