Abstract: Chlorine atoms were detected by laser spectroscopic methods in the laser smoke produced during the cutting and evaporation of tissue for medical purposes. A sensitive ion mobility drift sensor, optimized for the selective detection of hydrocarbon chlorides was used for further investigation of the laser smoke. Different chlorine containing substances were detected. The hazard potential of these substances to the medical staff and patients was estimated.!10
