Abstract: Germanium dioxide GeO$-2$/ forms glasses having a good transmission in the near and middle infrared region up to 4.5 $mu@. Various modifiers as PbO, TeO$-2$/, Sb$-2$/O$- 3$/, etc. added to GeO$-2$/ produce binary or ternary glasses having the similar transmission spectra and are more stable than pure GeO$-2$/ glass. This paper deals with the study of GeO$-2$/-PbO glassy system, with the preparation of these glasses with the low concentration of OH groups, with the study of optical properties such as absorption spectra, extrinsic and intrinsic absorption, refraction index, absorption edges, etc. The attention is also focused on preform preparation and the fiber's drawing. These optical fibers will be able to be used for power delivery of Ho:YAG and Er:Yag laser energies in medicine. !4
