Spray patterns produced by nozzles used in absorber slurry recycle and mist eliminator wash systems of absorber towers for FGD service are critical to the proper functioning of those systems. It is necessary to ensure complete, uniform coverage of the tower cross section by the spray pattern. Failure to provide an acceptable design for the placement of the spray nozzles can lead to performance problems in the absorber. This paper describes the development and use of computerized methods for quantitative evaluation and visual display of the spray coverage afforded by a given nozzle arrangement. Examples are presented to show how the computer can be used to fine tune nozzle layout design or troubleshoot problems of existing systems.
