Abstract: The extended Huygens-Fresnel principle is used to develop a formulation for the average intensity distribution of a partially coherent source in a turbulent medium. The dependence of the average spot size on the beam parameters, the position of the receiving lens, and the turbulence intensity along the path are investigated. It is shown that moving the receiving lens toward the source results in a reduction of the average spot size. !12
