Abstract: Azo-dye doped polymer (ADP) systems have been the focusof many research groups for realizing variousholographic applications for the past twenty years dueto their remarkable optical properties such asgrainless media, real-time capabilities, dynamicpolarization holographic recording, etc. In this paper,we are reporting the photorefractivity of azo-dye dopedPoly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films. Under actiniclighting (lambda equals 488 nm), real-time dynamicphase holograms resulting from a local change inrefractive index, with reasonable high diffractionefficiency, have been recorded and a maximum of 10% hasbeen achieved. The diffraction efficiency obtained ishigher than the similar earlier reported systems. Thereal-time kinetics of photoreversibility (bleaching andevolution) of azo dyes in PMMA matrices has also beenstudied. Some interesting applications in opticalprocessing have been realized, exploiting the specialproperties of ADP systems such as complete auto-reversibility, high rise and erase times, absence ofmemory effect, and uniform write/read/erase (WRE)cycles. !25
