One promising area of research in remote sensign involves its use in the monitoring and control of vector-borne diseases, which presnt serious threats to human health throughout the world. Outbreaks of vector-borne diseases are a result of a number of factors involving the interaction of humans, vectors and hosts along with the ecological system in which they reside. Remote sensing allows us to monitor on a very broad scale the location and extent of vector habitat, while geographical information systems provide an efficine tmechanism for storing and analyzing this data in a geographical framework. The great value of remote sensing coupled with geographical inforamtion systems is the capabiflity to create a digital database with excellent temporal and spatial references.
