摘要

The past decade has seen the re-emergence of many age-old diseases and the emergence of several new human health problems worldwide. While many factors influence the patterns of human health, the most significant contributor today may well be environmental change. Aircraft and satellite remote sensing (RS) data at a variety of spectral, spatial, and temporal scales have been successfully used to identify and characterize both natural and human-induced changes in the landscape, ocean, and atmosphere. As burgeoning human populations accelerate the rate of environmental change, both RS technologies and geographic information systems (GIS) may prove to be powerful tools in disease surveillance and human health risk assessment.
