A methodology is presented to construct discrete-time space-state models of a class of nonlinear dynamic systems having single-input/single-output channels. The methodology uses a set of designed simulatiosn that are made on the differential (or difference) equations. The simulation results generate an input/output map characterizing the system. A realization algorithm based on the use of extended Hankel matrices is then applied to the input/output map to generate the dynamic matrices. If certain rank conditions are satisfied, the nonlinear state-space model describes completely the nonlinear system and has minimal order; otherwise, the state-space model is an approximation of the dynamic system and its usefullness has to be confirmed by further simulations.
