In order to quantify surface and intramuscular crosstalk, six EMG recordings were performed on the Medial and Lateral Gastrocnemius (MG and LG) and Tibialis Anterior (TA) muscles in a feline preparation. Crosstalk amplitude to the LG and TA were 6.6% and 5.9% for surface electrodes, 1.7 and 3.6% for wire electrodes. The data analysis indicated that crosstalk levels are not significant when compared to the target muscle activity. Importantly, crosstalk was minimized by allowing maximum distance between surface electrodes and by inserting the wire electrodes halfway between the motor point and the distal insertion.
