摘要

The US government sponsored the development of models to quantify the vulnerability of commercial transport aircraft and business jets capable of long range flight to potential launch vehicle debris impacts. Specifically, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Missile Defense Agency, the US Air Force (USAF), and the US Navy provided funding for the development of commercial transport aircraft vulnerability models that were incorporated into RCC 321-07. Most recently, the FAA and USAF sponsored the development of vulnerability models for transoceanic business jets based on the same methods. This paper presents insights into the development and application of aircraft vulnerability models intended to ensure protection from potential debris from launch and reentry vehicles.
