Over the past five years, there has been rapid and sustained growth across the world in all segments of the wireless communications industry, particularly in cordless, cellular and paging. This growth has given rise to the view that wireless is permitting us to enter a new era in communications, characterized by a significant paradigm shift. The primary goal of universal telephone service is driving developing nations towards rapid provisioning of communications network infrastructure, often utilizing wireless technology as well as traditional wired means. Even as this is happening new developments and experience with wireless technology is helping us evolve towards the future state of universal personal communications (UPC), which promises the consumer the ability to communicate anywhere anytime and in any form i.e. voice, data, imaging and eventually full-motion video services. The paper examines the future of wireless communication.
