British OTEC programmes 10 MW floating and 0.5 MW land based

For a decade the UK effort has been directed at development of aclosed-cycle, floating 10 MW OTEC plant making use of 5-MW power moduleswith electricity production the sole objective. A separate initiativehas focused on a small 0.5 MW land-based design, with the object ofutilizing cold, deep, nutrient-rich waters for aquaculture and for theproduction of potable water. For both projects island locations arepreferred. Progress to date is reviewed
