Recent development of a series of miniature probes for acquiringgeoscience data is described. Because of the small probe size, pushingmechanisms are also scaled down (1000 kg, typically). Handling equipmentonboard oceanographic research vessels is suitable for deployment of theself-contained miniprobe systems. Installation of the systems onremotely-operated-vehicles also appears feasible. Penetrations to 12.2 mhave been achieved
