A simple CMOS power stabilizer for integrated sensor applications

This paper presents a novel, simple circuit that delivers a constant power to a variable load. This constant power delivering circuitry is very useful in many integrated transducer applications. The circuit requires only six CMOS transistors and the operating principle is based on nonlinear feedback. The circuit has a very high dynamic range and introduces only a 1% error in the dissipated power for a 50% change in load resistance. The circuit was fabricated and tested using PLESSEY gate array and Northern Telecom's CMOS technologies.
