The paper reports the results of a study of charge separation by forcing low conductivity liquids through micro-pore filters of different types and pore sizes. The influence of flItration on charging tendency of the test liquids has been studied for a range of flow rates and temperatures. The cellulose acetate cellulose nitrate Millipore filters charged the oils positively, while glass fibre Sartorius pre filters the oils negatively. The charging tendency of Norpar 15 d when the flow rate was < 6 x 10/sup -6/ m/sup 3//s). Based on the experimental results it is proposed that the charge content of the oil can be reduced by forcing the oil through defined micro-pore structure of known composition and by allowing the charged oil to relax electric relaxation chamber.
