Practical challenges for digital watermarking applications

The field of digital watermarking has recently seen numerousarticles covering novel techniques, theoretical studies, attacks andanalysis. We focus on practical challenges for digital watermarkingapplications. Challenges include design considerations, requirementsanalysis, choice of watermarking techniques, speed, robustness and thetradeoffs involved. We describe common attributes of watermarkingsystems and discuss the challenges in developing real worldapplications. We present, as a case study, a hypothetical applicationthat captures important aspects of watermarking systems and illustratessome of the issues faced
