Supplementing of transformational encoding by encoding a sequence of coefficients magnitudes in a decreasing order of magnitudes results in a to-stage transformational encoding method. When the method is applied to two-dimensional pictures, the method approximates the sequence of transform coefficients magnitudes as a decreasing function which is parametrically described by very few numbers. By using cosine transformation a reduction to 1.0-1.5 bit/pixel was achieved.
