Bioelectric potentials in the small intestine have been measured in a series of dogs using intraluminal ring electrodes on a probe inserted through the mouth and stomach. Potentials of the order of one millivolt have been obtained for the slow wave using this technique. The velocity of the propagating signal was measured to be about 10 cm/s, and the frequencies of the signals in the small intestine and the pylorus were about 0.27 Hz and 0.06 Hz, respectively. The signals obtained are similar to those reported in the literature for other methods.
