How does a cash-strapped radio network streamweb video from a location where the necessary infrastructureis barely existent? This presentation examines thechallenges of Radio Free Asia’s live web video coverage ofCandidates Forums and interviews during the CambodianNational Commune elections in June 2012. It details theunavailability or unsuitability of the necessary infrastructure,i.e., phone lines, lighting and audio equipment and internetservice at the choicest venues. Additionally, it will detail theadjustments made to our production approach, in order topull these events off.This presentation will also examine the measures employedto convert existing RFA facilities, equipment andinexpensive furniture and other material into an environmentfor broadcast and recording of Election-relatedprogramming. Additionally, this proposal will look at howoffice personnel, radio reporters and administrative stafferswere retrained to act as video production personnel for theduration of the broadcasts.
