With the trend for decreasing well spacing, the increasing use of horizontal wells in field development and the exploitation of deeper reservoir targets, the accuracy of reservoir models is becoming ever more critical. The differing depth domains of deviation surveys can affect the accuracy of reservoir model geometry.This paper aims to bring awareness into depth uncertainty in deviation surveys and emphasizes the use of a consistent depth reference regardless of the type of data used.Figure 1 A cross-section showing the differences between the planned well profile and the trajectories computed from the original deviation data and the depth-shifted deviation data for Well M1.
