Due their ecological advantages multi-storey timber houses have come more important all over Europe. Therewith also the subjects of fire-resistant sealing and fire stops in wooden constructions have gained significance. The first European Technical guideline "Fire safety in timber buildings" which has been developed within the European research project "FireInTimber" give basic principles of detailing in timber structures. The main focus of this guideline published by SP-Tr?tek is on structural fire design on separating and loadbearing functions. The detailing of building components between different fire compartments and the penetrations of pipes and cables is very important to avoid fire spreads for all constructions methods even for non-combustible materials. However especially in timber constructions the detailing and the quality control is of particular importance. Due to the rapid increase of timber constructions involved workmen like electricians, plumber's aren′t familiar with this construction. A German study underlines that the frequency of defects or non-compliances in the detailing of ducts and of the penetrations of pipes and cables rank definitely first.
