High performance microwave cavity filters are finding increasing applications in satellite and mobile communication systems. Today band-pass coaxial cavity filters with rectangular enclosures are commonly used in wireless base-stations because of small size and their unique characteristics including low cost, wide tuning range and excellent spurious-free perfomrance. Rigorous electromagnetic analysis of these filters and modeling different coupling structures involved are quite time and memory consuming. Accurate but simplified parametric models for the resonators and coupling structures provide an efficient tool for preliminary design and optimization of the filters (1).
