In many buildings, air handling units (AHUs) suffer from control oscillation. This paper suggests enhancing the control performance by replacing conventional control strategy with cascade control, and presents a simulation test and a practical application to compare the performance of different control strategies. The simulation test proves that in ideal condition, both conventional single-loop control and cascade control can maintain stable, however, when it comes to actual conditions in which sensor noise and actuator error exist, only cascade strategy can achieve stable control. At last, a real control renovation is introduced, proving that converting to cascade control is a feasible way to handle the problem of unstable AHU control.
