This paper presents an IoT platform based on electrooculography (EOG) to provide assistance, control and monitor a Smart Home Environment for Patients with Motor Disabilities in real time. The user can control the intelligent environment by selecting through a graphical interface (GUI) with predefined options such as control the doors, windows, lights, air conditioning, temperature and control the functions of a TV. To navigate in the GUI, a combination of three saccadic movements of the eye must be performed (e.g. move the eye to the left then right and left). The GUI is integrated in the gateway that connects the smart home with the cloud. The actions performed by the user can be controlled and monitored in real-time from the cloud. This method was evaluated with 12 users. Our designed IoT platform has an accuracy of 97.71%. All users were able to control the smart home environment using the sequence of instructions based on EOG.
