The aim of this work is to design a single-phase electric vehicle (EV) charging station (CS), which is to be implemented in homes for the EVs and feeding the domestic demand. The CS uses PV (Photovoltaic) array and wind energy generation (WEG) for charging in an islanded mode (IM). However, the grid connected mode (GCM) charging is used in case the PV and WEG powers are insufficient for EV charging. In addition, the diesel generator (DG) set is utilized when the grid is also not available. This EVCS (Electric Vehicle Charging Station) uses only a voltage source converter (VSC) to operate the EVCS in IM and DG set connected mode (DGCM) and GCM for simultaneous charging and household supply. The EVCS supports the bi-directional transfer of power at unity power factor between grid and CS. In DGCM, the optimum loading of DG set is ensured by regulating the frequency and voltage of the generator using VSC. The other features of the CS include reactive power support, vehicle to grid (V2G), harmonics mitigation, vehicle-to-home (V2H) and synchronization of PCC and grid /DG set voltage for seamless connection to grid/DG set.
