Ranking the Logistics Uncertainty in Malaysian Road Transport Operations

Supply chain industries in Malaysia is challenged with many unexpected outcomes at every level of its process. One of the biggest challenges is in coping with the infrastructure of its road transport that might disrupt the efficiency of the whole system. The impact of this uncertainties on the total supply chain management cost has always being the interest of many, however, it can only be done when the uncertainties are determined and reconfirmed. This study explores the uncertainty factors that are associated with road transport operations that substantially influence the Total supply chain management Cost (TC). To obtain the opinions of SCM experts, a survey questionnaire was developed after identifying eight (8) relevant causes. An initial response of 69 SCM professionals was obtained, and the relative importance index (RII) was used to prioritize the significant uncertainty factors that escalate the TC. This study also determined that Cost and Sustainability Risk score for each of the cluster and figured that delays is still considered as low cost despite it tops the list of uncertainties in Malaysian road transport operations.
