3D Model-Based Product Definition and Production – a Mind Change with Technical Hurdles

Digitalization in companies means relevant changes in the world of work. In addition to technical challenges economic and social-scientific aspects must be considered, especially regarding the employees' acceptance of change. New digitalization technologies lead to new processes and working methods, which must be presented and explained convincingly, to illustrate the advantages for the entire process chain. A change in processes and working methods is always accompanied by an overcoming of reservations and resistance to change. These challenges, possible solutions and emerging opportunities - especially in the area of 3D model-based product development and production - are described and analyzed in this paper. Also, the necessity of supporting tools to secure the process automation in the field of design and quality assurance is presented.
