The main problem associated with wind power system is the major difference between the wind (wind speed is strongly non stationery process) and the demanding electrical energy quality. In order to achieve reliable use of wind energy, advanced control techniques are required. The goal is to develop a robust controller for the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy conversion system (WECS) to track the desired generator reference speed trajectory whilst dealing with the uncertainties due to the inherent PMSG nonlinearity, external disturbance or the variations of working environment. In this paper, the WECS equipped with PMSG proposes a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm. A nonlinear Terminal sliding mode controller (TSMC) is proposed for maximum power point extraction. The proposed MPPT method aims at maximizing the power captured by WECS, Converges the output tracking error to zero and drives the system states to the optimal operating points in a finite time.
