Nowadays, simulation tools increase the understanding we have of various source strength and the way they impact noise onboard ships and the corresponding Underwater Radiated noise (URN). This paper discusses the specific contribution of airborne noise, generated from sources such as the engine, to URN. The airborne noise has become a non-negligible source of URN since the structure-borne noise component has been progressively well controlled by the use of efficient isolators and double suspension systems, limiting the amount of vibrational energy being injected into the engine foundation. This paper first introduces the context of this study, followed by a description of the vessel analyzed and finally the results of a predictive SEA model which shows the various paths the energy follows before being radiated underwater. Predictions are compared to a proven empirical prediction model.
