Moment-based experimental method for the improvement of transfer path analysis accuracy

Recent studies on the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) of vehicles have mainly focused on the road noise generated from the road surface. Transfer path analysis is commonly used to estimate the road noise of vehicles that is transmitted from the vehicle suspension to the body. In this study, the road noise of a vehicle with a multi-link suspension system is estimated using an experimental method that considers the moment of force at the mounting point, to improve the TPA accuracy. To apply the moment-based experimental method, the input force at the mounting point is estimated using a model based on the loads, in both translational and rotational directions. When conducting impact tests to measure the frequency response functions, the excitation points are determined so that the moment information is sufficiently included. To validate the moment-based experimental method, the estimated road noise is compared with those obtained using the conventional TPA and the frequency range with improved accuracy is checked.
