摘要

Nitrification was traditionally thought to be a two-step process catalyzed by distinct groups of chemolithoautotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) or archaea (AOA) and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria (NOB). Microorganisms capable of complete ammonia oxidation (comammox) were discovered recently (Daims et al., 2015 and van Kessel et al., 2015), and investigations have shown that comammox bacteria (CMX) exist in diverse environments (Pjevac et al., 2017), including wastewater treatment plants across the globe (Annavajhala et al., 2018). The contribution of CMX in nitrification thus needs more attention, in terms of both CMX biomass concentrations and activity.
