Oleic acid-coated 5 nm magnetic nanostructures were successfully loaded into PEG-b-PPS MCs, PSs and BCNs with loading efficiency found to be dependent on internal hydrophobic surface area of the PEG-bl-PPS nanocarrier morphology. Relaxivity of MNS-loaded nanocarriers was found to be dependent on particle size and water access and hydrophobic surface area, with highest values found for MNS-BCNs. In future studies, magnetic dispersal and thermal activation properties of MNS-loaded nanostructures will be investigated in vitro and in vivo to respectively assess directional control as well as heat generation.
