We have succeeded in the preparation of amphiphilic PPEGMA gel capsules with inner water phase via IMEPP from the surface of the W/O emulsions stabilized with the water-soluble PMPC-b-POEGMA emulsifier. The resulting PPEGMA gel capsules were colloidally stable in both chloroform and water continuous phase. The FITC-Dex release from the PPEGMA gel capsules was enhanced in response to reducing environment. Although the application of PPEGMA gel capsules as smart drug carriers requires further research, the smart functions of the PPEGMA gel capsules can provide useful platforms for constructing a drug carrier that can deliver water-soluble drugs, such as low-molecular-weight drugs, proteins, and DNAs into the cytosol, which has a reducing environment.
