We developed the smallest 4-wavelength integrated receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA) to our knowledge. Our ROSA is comprised of an LC receptacle, a flexible printed circuit (FPC) and a plastic frame without using hermetic sealing. Four photodiodes (PDs) and one 4-ch transimpedance amplifier (TIA) are mounted on the FPC and the plastic frame including an optical de-multiplexer (ODEMUX) is adjusted to obtain appropriate PD responses. We achieved the receiving performance required for 400 Gbps 2 km application over an operating temperature range of −10 °C to 90 °C. The minimum receiver sensitivity was −8.3 dBm at 90 °C and a lane-to-lane crosstalk penalty was less than 0.1 dB.
