The project describes the line balancing methodology on every station of the door assembly line at Electrolux. It shows how much percentage of time is value added, non-value added and waste using different problem solving and data collection techniques. It also describes the material flow of the door through the assembly line in one piece. Data collection was done as per the basic rules which will be discussed later in the paper. Exact time of the activities was recorded using a cam corder and all the activities were performed as and when executed on the assembly line. Data was collected at Electrolux Major Appliances during normal operation hours in two shifts and was verified again by viewing video recording of activities. Videos of the floor workers working were analyzed to get the data for time study and process mapping. This is a radical approach in the process improvement towards lean manufacturing at Electrolux implemented for the first time.
