With the increasing population of the world, the need to use urban transport has increased. The motive force in such systems is performed by a linear motor. Various motors have been introduced for use as an actuator, and the switch reluctance motor has positive features for this application. In this paper, the design and optimization of the Switch reluctance motor (SRM) has been investigated. At first, the design procedure of the motor will be investigated. The two-dimensional finite element method has been used to verify the design of the motor and the simulation results are compared with the design assumptions and the design accuracy will be evaluated. At the end, the optimization of the motor was done with the purpose of reducing the force ripple, and it will be proved that the optimized motor had better conditions than the initial motor.
