In this paper we present the results of an analog joint source-channel coding (JSCC) system designed to transmit still images over wireless channels. We consider also a digital system using the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) standard for comparison purposes. The main objective is to analyze the transmission rate of both systems with the same conditions of image quality. To do so, we use the structural similarity (SSIM) index to generate JPEG images with a quality similar to the received analog ones. To assess the proposed systems, the signals are transmitted over wireless channels of a medium sized office. For this environment, we consider line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios.
