Influence of high temperature on surface flashover characteristics of the insulating blanket used in live working of distribution line

Live working is an effective method to improve the reliability of the power distribution network, and the insulating protective tool, such as insulating blanket is an important tool to protect the safety of worker during the live working. In order to study the effect of high temperature on the surface flashover characteristics of insulating blankets, the silicone rubber and resin insulating blankets are selected as research objects. The surface flashover characteristics tests of the insulating blankets under different temperature are carried out. The results show that the peak value of leakage current of silicone rubber and resin insulating blanket increases slightly at 20∼40 °C, but increases greatly at 40∼80 °C. The surface flashover voltage of silicone rubber and resin insulation blanket decreases linearly at a temperature of 20 to 80 °C, when the electrode distance is 4 cm, the reduction rates are 0.0453 and 0.0470 kV/°C, respectively, and the resin insulation blanket has better insulation performance. However, due to the thermal deformation of resin insulation blanket at 60 to 80 °C, the insulation performance of resin insulation blanket decreases faster at high temperature.
