This paper proposes an Electric Driver (ED) for LED headlight with Adaptive Frontlighting System (AFS) of vehicle. The ER mainly contains two parts. One is power stage and the other is control unit. The power stage is a single-stage structure, instead of multi stages, such that it can achieve high efficiency, low cost, and compact features. Even though the proposed ER is a single-stage, all LED strings can be controled individually and then, easily accomplish AFS functions. The control unit is carried out by two Microchip MCUs, which controls LED on/off, performs active switch controlling, determines LED current, functions circuit protection, and fulfills dimming feature. To verify the ER, a prototype is built, simulated, and tested. From simulations and hardware measurements, the feasibility of the proposed ED is demonstrated. Furthermore, a series of experiments, such as environmental test, protection test, and burning examination, are dealt with. The practical results proof that the ER can meet the requirements for production.
