Transmission Section Identification in a Power System Considering Impacts of a Natural Gas Network

Identification of transmission sections has an important implication on investigating and controlling operational risks of the power system concerned. The increasing coupling between electricity and natural gas networks has made the operations of both networks more complicated. A new method for identifying transmission sections in a power system is proposed in this paper considering the impacts of a natural gas network concerned. First, an integrated system of power and natural gas networks is optimized subject to operating constraints in both power and natural gas networks. The shortest electrical distance and the power sensitivity index are jointly employed next to form a comprehensive clustering index, and then a partition-based approach is used to identify transmission sections of the power system. Finally, a sample integrated system is built by combining the modified IEEE 39-node power system and Belgium 20-node natural gas system and employed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
