low-frequency Inter-area oscillation has severe impacts on the reliable operation of a large power system. These oscillations create a significant problem in the power system. A wide-area damping controller (WADC) is very useful to magnify the damping of the oscillation. The power system stabilizer(PSS) is very common for improving the low-damping local mode of oscillation. However, due to less observability, the PSS is not competent to improve the inter-area mode of oscillation. A loop shaping based PI controller is presented in this paper for magnifying the damping factor of the oscillations. The concept of the design approach is to reduce the norm of the error of actual and target loop transfer function. The proposed controller is verified in Kundur's eleven bus power system with considering multiple operating conditions. From the achieved results of modal analysis and nonlinear simulation, it is seen that the controller magnifies the damping of the oscillations.
